Agüero started playing for Independiente and stayed there for 3 years between 2003 - 2006 he played 53 games and scored 23 goals. At the end of the 2006 season Atletico Madrid bought him for £15.75 million and he signed a 6 year contract to keep him there until 2012. So far for Madrid he has played 68 games and he has scored 22 goals. Agüero been the top goalscorer for the Argentina national under-20 football team, in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He made his senior debut for Argentina in a friendly with Brazil on 6th September 2006.
