Pike will pit his wits against Kevin Bond for a place in the 2nd round. The tie of the round is the Yorkshire derby between Leeds and Huddersfield at Elland Road. Before joining Bournemouth | Quote: Saturday 11th August 2007 - Championship Match 1 Queens Park Rangers 1-0 Preston North End Team: Camp, Gilbert, Lee, Hall, Mancienne (Star man), Mahon, Murphy, Leigertwood, Barazite, Anichebe, Buszaky (c). Goalscorers: Michael Mancienne (12) Attendance: 14,795 Opinions: Definately worth a win on the opening day but was always nervy with just the 1 goal lead going in to the last 15 mins. They pushed hard at the end and nailed the bar thanks to Neil Mellor. With only Anichebe up front he didn't look sharp enough and I might consider dropping him next week in favour of Beckford. Young Barazite gave a solid game in the middle dictating play next to MAhon who held back slightly giving Nacer space to open up Preston. Overall it's pleasing to get 3 points. The scorer | Wednesday 15th August - Carling Cup 1st Round Match AFC Bournemouth 1-2 Queens Park Rangers Team: Camp, Gilbert, Lee, Albrechtsen, Mancienne, Buszaky, Murphy (Mahon 56), Leigertwood, Ambrose, Vine (Fangzhuo 45), Bolder (c) Goalscorers: Michael Mancienne (34), Rowan Vine (36) Attendance: 8544 Opinions: A tough game, much tougher than Preston. A Mancienne OG brought them back in to the game and looked dangerous coming forward. Just like to thank Camp for bringing out a string of saves in the second half to keep Bournemouth at bay. Decided to go with Vine alone up front and scored a terrific goal from outside the area just placing it in the bottom corner and Mancienne doubled his goal tally with a well taken header from a Buszaky corner. Resting Anichebe for the cup game paid dividends in the end netting a thoroughly deserved hatrick. He gave the ageing N'Gotty the run around from the word go with his running on the angles and his physical presence brushing off N'Gotty time and time again. Leicester did have a few good chances but they just didn't take them Howard having the pick of them with a free header at the far post rattling the cross bar. Another win though and more importantly another clean sheet. Hatrick Hero | Quote: Carling Cup 2nd Round Draw QPR have been handed a tricky game away to Championship rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday 29th August. After getting hammered by Hull 5-1 on the opening game of the season, Palace have racked up 3 clean sheets with 2 wins in the process of that. So it's defence against defence, who will come unstuck? The game of the round definately has to be at St. James Park with Newcastle hosting fallen giants Nottm Forest. Forest who are stuck in the 3rd tier of English football are up there with the biggest clubs outside the top flight and will definately give Newcastle a test. Leeds have been awarded another Yorkshire derby at home to Sheff Utd in what promises to be a cracker. His pace brought him the chances getting past Adam Birgo with ease to just slot home from close range. Dean Gerken never really stood a chance with any of the goals. To be fair the scoreline doesn't suggest how the game panned out, Colchester had more chances than us but again our defence and keeper stood strong and if Camp can carry this on surely bigger teams will be wanting him.
