It was a Thursday night and i had just got back from training my U18's Thetford Town team and switched on Sky Sports New. Sfter watching it for 30 mins i decided i was going to go to bed when all of a sudden....
BREAKING NEWS. So i sat down to see what had happened and i was shocked the team i had supported from a boy, the only manager i had known to be in control of Arsenal FC had been sacked. I was totaly gobsmacked. I went to bed thinking of who would take us over and what would happen to team i dreamed of playing for.... I woke up Friday at 07.00 am for work. I had my corn flakes and sat down on the sofa to watch GMTV and my mobile rung. I answered it and to my suprise it was Peter Hill-Wood. He said that the club had been watching me coach the Ipswich youth team and the Thetford U18 in my spare time. Who had been watching me i hadnt noticed anyone? So he asked me if he could meet me to talk about a job. I thought for 10 seconds and i agreed. Meet me at Ashburton Grove at 01.30 pm. So i bunked the day of work and that was me out of Thetford.
I got to Ashburton grove and went to Peter Hill-Woods office and he poured me out a cup of coffee and himself a cup of green tea. I had drunk half my coffee when he said how would you like to be the Arsenal manager. I told him it would be a dream come true. Before i knew it i was being offered a job as Arsenal FC manager. He said the reason we want you is because your young age of 27 and that my record for the Ipswich youth team was very good. I had only lost 3 games in two and a half seasons so i guess i was a farely decent manager. He added i was the closest manager to Arsene Wenger with the quick, direct passing football i play. So i read the contract it said they would pay for accomodation, transport, food and everything i needed. I signed the contract...
A dream come true what would the fans think, my normal life was over i was Arsenal FC's manager!
