Ahh that age old problem...You uncover a gem only to find a bigger club who will probably hardly play him will try to take him off your hands. Naturally the player goes all starry eyed at the prospect of treading the green at old trafford or chelsea even though it'll be a year or two before he gets a game. I have found a couple of ways to make the decision difficult for him though. Firstly get him to recommend a signing. if you can sign this player, do so because it will strengthen your relationship with him. Then try to sign a recommended member of backroom staff, and this will add to the relationship. Offer him the best contract at the club for his position, beware this may upset a couple of other players, especially older ones. Finally do not be tempted to reject proposals out of hand from bigger clubs, as this will anger the player. If you can, let negotiations begin, but try and draw them out til end of transfer window. This way you can delay it then the player cant move anyway. |
