Default Challenge Guide

Guide to creating challenges

Hopefully reading the following guidelines will help people create new and exciting challenges for FM 2008, this is the sole reason for writing this guide.
When deciding on making a challenge there are few things to take into consideration;

1. Make the time frame of the challenge realistic, dont say stuff like ‘win the FA cup with MK Dons in the first season’ as this would be extremely difficult to achieve and would only deter people from starting.

2. Make it challenging yet enjoyable, the more people that get into it the better it will be, add a few realistic mini challenges inside the main challenge, e.g. if u create a challenge like ‘Can you take Redditch United all the way to the prem in 10 seasons’ perhaps you can also add little challenges like you must make L2 before the 5th season, can you win the FA Trophy before you gain promotion to the football league, Can you make the 3rd round of the FA cup while still a non-league club, stuff like that.

3. Introduce a points system where by you gain points for completeing certain tasks, take for example the challenge I stated above, you can incorparate a points system into this, perhaps for instance if you make the FA cup 3rd round while still a non-league club that would gain you say 5 points and so on. This is also a good way to get other people involed in your challenge’s as they can see how they fair against fellow FM players.

4. Be Creative, people want something different, try new ideas and add mini tasks into your challenge but dont over complicate things though remember to keep it as simple as possible. Interesting and different ideas catch people attention which will help your challenge thrive.

5. Dont be put off if this is your first attempt at making a challenge, making them comes with practice like everything else in the world, Rome wasn’t bulit in a day so expect critisim for your efforts, what you do with this critisim is upto you but on the whole it should spurn you to make an even better one next time, just think to yourself when reading peoples comments ‘well why aren’t you making challenges then if you think it is that easy’.

6. Use the ideas thread on the forum when making new challenges, after all this is where the members post their ideas for them, take a look and consider their views and suggestions as even the smallest idea can be transformed into a challenge. Be careful tho as some ideas maybe totally bonkers to put it nicley and could invole alot of tweaking to get right but after all these are the people who would be doing your challenge so why ignore them.

7. The last thing to remember is to add the rules to your challenge, the rules are there for a reason and stating them clearly will tell the other members what is expected of them. Ask for screenshots and sometimes even suggest that you might need there save game file to decide if the challenge was done according to the rules, after all we dont people cheating do we.

Well I hope after reading this guide you think you are capable and confident of making your very own challenge.
