Default Aston Villa Story

Saturday 7th July 2007 - 19:00
BREAKING NEWS

An Aston Villa spokesperson today announced that manager Martin O'Neill has decided to take a break from football to spend time with his cancer-stricken wife, Geraldine.

O'Neill has quit Villa to spend time with his wife.

As the search for a new manager goes on, Aston Villa has refused to announce who they have contacted, although they did tell us that they have spoken to a few people about the job, some highly rated, some not-so highly rated.

John Robertson - 8/11 (F)
Harry Redknapp - 4/1
Martin Jol - 5/1
Terry Venables - 16/1
Jose Mourinho - 20/1
David O'Leary - 33/1
David Ginola - 2000/1
James McMahon - 2000/1

Aston Villa assistant manager John Robertson looks favorite to get the job, although there is some competition from some highly rated managers, with David O'Leary and David Ginola refusing to rule out a return to Villa Park. James McMahon could also get his first manager role. He was a successful coach during Martin O'Neill's regin at Parkhead with Celtic.

Ginola refused to rule out a return to Villa Park, were he enjoyed a wonderful playing career.

To think that people can go out with hatred in their heart and take away people's sons or brothers or fathers is just beyond belief. That's the way I think about it now: it's only a game. 'Educate the kids to integrate with one another and not pay any attention to who's a Catholic and who's a Protestant, and any of that rubbish. 'Just go out there, support your team, make good friends and get on with your lives.
