BREAKING NEWS An Aston Villa spokesperson today announced that manager Martin O'Neill has decided to take a break from football to spend time with his cancer-stricken wife, Geraldine.
O'Neill has quit Villa to spend time with his wife. As the search for a new manager goes on, Aston Villa has refused to announce who they have contacted, although they did tell us that they have spoken to a few people about the job, some highly rated, some not-so highly rated.

Aston Villa assistant manager John Robertson looks favorite to get the job, although there is some competition from some highly rated managers, with David O'Leary and David Ginola refusing to rule out a return to Villa Park. James McMahon could also get his first manager role. He was a successful coach during Martin O'Neill's regin at Parkhead with Celtic.
Ginola refused to rule out a return to Villa Park, were he enjoyed a wonderful playing career.
