Canary Huckaby not ready to fly the coup to TFC, Norwich manager says Posted: January 29, 2008, 5:00 PM by Colin Smith
Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder has shot down rumours that striker Darren Huckerby is set to join Toronto FC before the transfer window closes on Jan. 31.“No one has phoned me up,” Roeder told reporters on Tuesday. “This is the time of year for speculation. I have not heard anything at all, nothing whatsoever.
“The way the system works quite often now the managers at the club are the last people to hear. The days of ringing up the manager first and asking whether a player is available are nearly shot to pieces, nearly gone.”
Reports from the U.K. this week indicated that TFC manager Mo Johnston was looking to sign the 31-year-old Huckerby and reunite him with former Norwich City teammates Carl Robinson and Jim Brennan. Huckerby has scored three goals in 16 appearances for The Canaries this year. Though Roeder has yet to be approached by TFC, he admitted a deal could still get done. “I think a lot of people do deals around the back door, and then ring the manager and club to see what the possibilities are of moving players on, but I have heard nothing,” he added.
“I have had no phone calls from anywhere in this country or anywhere in Canada, or the world.”
Here's another one, we've had David Beckham, Juan Pablo Angel, Abel Xavier, Youri Djorkayeff, Celestine Babayaro and Danny Dichio already come over here.
Personally I think that this is both good and bad, these plaeyrs have expereince playing at a pretty high level, much better than what we have right now. But at the same time it is bad, with so many players just coming here to finish off their careers with some extra cash
But what do you think? Most of this forum isnt from the US & Canada, so how do you feel about it?
