Default FM Graphics guide

Where to extract graphics to

A lot of people will already know where to put FM graphics but for those that don't, here's a guide.

First of all you need a program called winRar (available here). As all graphic downloads are in .rar form you need this program to uncompress the files. Once you have downloaded a .rar file double click on it and it will open in winRar. Now right click on the folder you want to extract from the rar archive and click “Extract to specified folder...” You now need to navigate your way to the following directories depending on type of graphics you have downloaded. The directories for the three main type of graphics are:

Default Kits: If you are wanting install a new type of kit like 3gt or 2gt you will need the default template of that style of kit so when you download the actual kits made from the template they show up in the game. These templates should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pictures\kits\default

Club Kits: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pictures\kits\clubs

National Team Kits: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pictures\kits\nations

Face packs: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pictures\players and then you can also sort them into their different countries, if you like.

Skins: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\skins

2D/3D players: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pitch\icons

Balls: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pitch\balls

Competition logos: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pictures\logos/comps

Nets: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pitch\nets

Pitch icons: These should be extracted to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\graphics\pitch\icons

Most downloads come with a readme and this readme will usually tell you the location to extract to if you are unsure of where a particular download should go. This is especially true if you have to extract some graphics to an unusual place. And remember to back-up your original FM graphics before you replace them with any new graphics, in case you wish to return to the original graphics in the future.

And don't forget all FM2005 graphics will work in FM2006, so your player facepacks can be moved from your FM2005 directory to the same directory in FM2006. However skins made for FM2005 should not be used in FM2006. As the way the skins are made differs slightly and may crash FM2006.

How to put a background in FM

First off all you need a JPEG image that is the size of 1024x768. Rename the image "default". Copy and paste the image into C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\skins\(the name of the skin you want the background in)\graphics\backgrounds.

So if you wanted to change the background of the Turnstyle skin the diredctory would be:

C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\skins\Turnstyle\graphics\backgrounds.

How to install skins

1. Find out the links of the sites that have skins. Skins are normally situated in downloads--->graphics-->skins area of an FM site.

2. Download the preferred skin that you want. Turnstyle 06 is one recommended skin.

3. Once downloaded use WINRAR (available here) or WINZIP to unzip the files.

4. Once unzipped extract them to C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2006\data\skins

5. Then load up your game and click preferences. Make sure you untick skin cache and then pick what skin you want from the list. This is done with any skin.

Large player pictures

The Turnstyle 06 skin is the only skin that will allow you to display large layer picture facepacks (size 140x180) available here.

However a skin mod can be downloaded to customise other FM skins to display large player pictures as well. This mod can be downloaded from here. You will now be able to use large player pictures in other skins as well now.

How to take a screenshot in FM

1. Get onto the screen you want to take a shot of in FM and then press the "Print Scrn" button on your keyboard.

2. Open up an application suitable for pasting an image into like Paint.

3. Press Ctrl and V to paste the screenshot onto the blank canvas.

4. Click "File" and then "Save as...". Give the screenshot a name and save the image as a .jpeg file.

5. To post the screenshot on a forum you need to host the image on a site like Imageshack.

6. Copy and paste this link into a post on the forum using the suitable html tags.
