Torino was in desperate need for a victory against rivals Atalanta who had to make a short trip to Turin. After getting one point from last three games, Torino couldn't offer more loss of points as the Scudetto challengers were really breathing down the Granata neck. Simone Barone received another start, but Alessandro Rosina, Andrea Pisano and Nikola Lazetic were on sidelines once more on this fine April evening. Silva sent a brilliant pass into the area to Roberto Stellone after receiving a cleared header, but the striker saw his shot denied by full-stretch Alex Calderoni. Nicola Ventola headed wide from nearly edge of the area from Stephen Dalmat's cross while Derlei's free-kick curled over from 20 meters. Schiavi's awful marking almost cost Torino a goal as he allowed Nicola Ventola get free with the ball and only pressure from Gabriel Tamas made Ventola blast the ball over one on one with Marcelo Grohe. Though then Torino got it's machine going and Roberto Stellone headed free-kick of Antonio Di Natale from left side into the far top corner. Two minutes later Granata added another one and it was truly super effort from Elvis Abbruscato, the striker skinned two opponent defenders after receiving a pass from Nicolae Mitea in middle of the pitch and sent a low finish into the goal as the ball bounced in from post. Silva almost got a third, but his shot from 25 metres out started falling too late and went just over the far post with Alex Calderoni out of the 6-yard box. Marco Andreolli missed a header and allowed Nicola Ventola to shoot a half-volley from edge of the area which luckily for Torino flew over the bar. Claudio De Sousa and Stefano Fiore joined the game as substitutes for Stellone and Mitea and Torino scored four minutes later. Silva brilliantly spotted Abbruscato and set him through on a run. The striker got closed down by Calderoni, but the second ball flew to Silva whose shot got deflected into the path of Simone Barone who tapped the ball into empty net and scored for the first time since breaking his leg in October 2007. Barone's goal sparked off big goal celebrations at Olimpico Andreolli's long ball found De Sousa, but the youngster couldn't score his first ever Serie A goal as his shot flew straight into the arms of Calderoni. Stefano Fiore had to go off with an injury just 10 minutes after coming on and Cedric Konan came on for him as Dalmat had the final chance of the match, but he shot just wide of the near post from outside of the area. Torino got a well-deserved 3:0 win and despite not being on scoreline, it was fair to say that it was largely thanks to midfield talent Silva who was in center of absolutely everything Torino did, making fantastic tackles, giving vital passes, showing true Brazilian brilliance with his neat technical skills and getting an assist for Barone goal. Win also made sure that the Scudetto race will probably be between Inter and Torino as Sampdoria and Fiorentina both drew and Juventus continues to be 8 points behind.
