Real Madrid are hopeful of securing the signing of Dutch starlet Royston Drenthe. The 20-year-old Feyenoord ace was the Player of the Tournament at the recent Uefa Under 21 Championship and most of Europe's big hitters were impressed. Chelsea and Barcelona have both lodged their interest, but Real seem set to seal a deal for the versatile left sider. "The truth is that I cannot let this pass, it is Real Madrid," he is quoted as saying in AS. Real president Ramon Calderon has confirmed that he expects Drenthe to sign shortly. "It seems that the transfer of Drenthe is going well and things should be closed within hours," he confirmed. "They tell me he is a fantastic player and I hope that everything is done fast." |
After releasing Carlos this seems to be a great signing. Although with Marcelo they have another great prospect unless Drenther will play in midfield?

Deportivo La Coruna have agreed a deal to sign Mexico starlet Andres Guardado. The Atlas midfielder, 21, was close to a move to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, but now looks to have secured a €7million (£4.7million) move to the Spanish club. "We have the pleasure of finishing the negotiations with Deportivo La Coruna to transfer Guardado to that team," Atlas president Fernando Acosta Martinez told Medio Tiempo. "We had held negotiations with PSV, but we had also had conversations with La Coruna and those were the best for all of us. "Everything has been arranged and next week we will finalise some formal details in Spain. "The transfer of the player has been agreed at €7m. This is not an expensive player. I think we have given him away cheaply because he is young and has great qualities. "He is a national team player. I am sure that if he had been Argentinian or Brazilian, he would have cost €5m (£3.4m) more. "Atlas didn't really want to sell this player, but it was a very important chance for him to play in Europe." The player's agent, Mario Ordales, says Guardado chose to move to La Liga rather than the Eredivisie as he felt it would offer him better opportunities to further his career. "For Guardado, this is an enormous chance because today the Spanish league is the best in the world and offers great possibilities for players," he said. |
