With three games left to play in the State Championship, I knew we had it all to play for. We were four points behind the leaders when we made the away trip to second-placed Flamengo. The game would be a true six-pointer and we had to win if we had any chance of being State Champions. We knew we needed to win to stay in with a shout, espescially with leader River playing away at Oeiras. The first half started well for us, with the game being extremely even, but it was Flamengo who scored first when Alan gave away a silly penalty that was converted easily by Carlos Alberto. Flamengo seemed happy with one-nil and sat on their lead until half-time. Half-Time Score: Flamengo 1-0 Parnahyba In the second-half, everything fell apart. Our players looked tired and just weren't interested. I was severely hoping that last week's result wasn't a fluke when Carlos Alberto got his second by heading home a corner. And when the third went in, courtesy of a Fabio free kick, I was just praying we wouldn't concede a fourth. We didn't. Full-Time Score: Flamengo 3-0 Parnahyba |
