Our next State Championship game was against Comercial and I was looking for a much better result in this game. We'd had a two-week break since our last game and I'd taken the time to rebuild. I quickly realised that I had to make a choice between keeping the club in the State Championship and keeping the finances in the red. And to me, the football was more important. So I brought in no less that 32 players - more than enough to guarantee some success - and devised a new formation to accentuate our strengths and protect our weeknesses. The first half showed I'd made the right choices in terms of both tactics and players. We scored first when 19 year old striker Washington picked up a clearance and beat a few defenders before slotting the ball home. We then got two more goals, with Washington completing his hat-trick. His second goal was a superb curling free-kick from the outside of the box on seven minutes, his third came at the end of another mazy run on the stroke of half-time. Half-Time Score: Parnahyba 3-0 Comercial There was nothign to say at half-time except 'keep it up' and I sent my boys out to complete the demolition job. We continued to dominate the game, and were unfortunate to concede a goal. Complacent defending let Bruno through for Comercial and he slotted home easily. But we only conceded once, and with us having a lot of chances but unable to score, that's how the game finished. Full-Time: Parnahyba 3-1 Comercial |
