Torino - Sampdoria

28th of January 2007
Stadio Olimpico, Turin
Italian Serie A 2006/2007 - Week 21

46' Elvis Abbruscato, 60' Elvis Abbruscato, 82' Elvis Abbruscato (Pen) - 28' Fabio Bazzani, 52' Fabio Bazzani, 90' Andrea Parola

Half-Torino lost the win in the last minute as Sampdoria managed to get a draw despite a magnificient Elvis Abbruscato hattrick.

Torino was in crisis with Cedric Konan, Alessandro Rosina, Gianluca Comotto, Simone Barone, Stefano Fiore and Iacopo Balestri all missing the Sampdoria match againist Sampdoria as the team was short of offensive minded midfielders.

Due to that Tursk had to opt for a 4-2-2-2 formation with two defensive midfielders and Vitaly Denisov getting a start at left-back position with Pancaro moving right. Suprisingly Tursk opted to give Andre Zuba another chance.

The first chance of the match fell to Sampdoria's winger Martin Petrov, but he shot wide from ten meters with a header.

It was a slow start, but ten minutes later Elvis Abbruscato tried to make a lob with his head, but Luca Castellazzi managed to get back right on time to clear the ball before it crossed the line.

This soon proved to be an even more important save as on the 28th minute Fabio Bazzani headed in Petrov's cross after Uzbek teenager Denisov left him loose for couple of seconds which was enough.

Bazzani opens the scoring

Abbruscato tried to draw the game, but again he had his header saved by Castelazzi while Bazzani's shot was pushed over after a counter-attack.

Luis Figo tried his luck before the half-time whistle, but his shot from the wing flew wide of the far post, it was worth a try though.

At half-time Torino bringed in Masashi Oguro for Roberto Stellone to spice up the things in attack.

Just minute into the second half Torino got the equalizer after Elvis Abbruscato slamed in his 15th league goal of the season from a Denisov cross.

Though the party was soon spoiled by Bazzani again as this time he was allowed a header by Marco Di Loreto to head it in past Zuba who never really looked anywhere near extra-ordinary during the match.

Bazzani puts Sampdoria back in lead

A bit after that Diego De Ascentis got a yellow card which means he'll miss the next Serie A match againist Empoli.

Though that didn't have any effect on Torino's play and on the 60th minute Masashi Oguro sent a low cross near post for Abbruscato who decided to control the ball first before taping it in, instead of shooting it straight past Castelazzi.

Fabio Bazzani's headers were obviusly a constant threat, but Torino counted themselves lucky when Sampdoria's top scorer this season sent the ball wide with another head ball.

More luck game in the 81st minute as Masashi Oguro got fouled by Luigi Sala in the box and referee pointed at the penalty spot. The replays showed that the decision was a light one, but Abbruscato didn't mind as he made his first ever Serie A hattrick by sending the ball into top corner.

Abbruscato leads the Capocannioniere [league top scorer] table by 2 goals

Right after it Angelo Palombo shot was pushed away by Zuba and after that Junior shot over as Sampdoria went ultra-attacking for the final minutes.

Though that opened up chances for Torino and Abbruscato got very close to 4th, but his brilliant shot was followed by as brilliant save from Castelazzi and the game was still open for the final minutes.

Ivan Francheschini was bringed on to add more aerial power to the outfit for the final five minutes, but it was Torino creating another chance instead, but Nikola Lazetic's break in was followed by great Castelazzi saved.

But the two great saves from Castelazzi proved to be heroic as the corner following a Andre Zuba save on Bazzini was sent in with a header in far post by Andrea Parola, again it was Denisov marking him.

Torino continues second and will face Empoli next week with lots of first teamers returing.

Torino: 1-Andre Zuba; 16-Giuseppe Pancaro, 2-Raffaele Schiavi, 25-Marco Di Loreto, 33-Vitaly Denisov; 15-Diego De Ascentis, 23-Andrea Ardito (85' 14-Ivan Franceschini); 5-Luis Figo, 17-Nikola Lazetic; 19-Elvis Abbruscato , 11-Roberto Stellone (45' 12-Masashi Oguro)
