Rangers manager Ross Dunbar today celebrated his first Old Firm Derby win over Celtic. The Gers triumphed 1-0 in the opening derby of the season and what a cracker it was!!. It was a 'typical' Old Firm game described by Ross Dunbar with many challenges, a fast and furious pace and a superb goal. Rangers went into the Old Firm Showdown with Seven Old Firm debutants including Yohann Pele, Steven Whittaker, Kirk Broadfoot, Petter Hansson, Jeremy Clement, Luka Modric and Eduardo. Celtic, however had a more solid look about them with the only Derby Debutants in Gordon Strachan's First Eleven were Gary Caldwell, Thomas Gravesen and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
The game kick off at a ferocious tempo with Jeremy Clement being booked after just 106secs. Rangers dominated for most of the game and should have been infront after 31mins when an imaginative run by Thomas Buffel was brought to a standstill by Gravesen. Barry Ferguson stepped up and his free-kick rattled the woodwork. Rangers made a triple change after 62mins and it undoubtedly changed the match when Dado Prso, Chris Burke and Freddy Eastwood replaced the weak performances from Eduardo, Thomas Buffel and Kris Boyd. The change paid off after 73mins when a nice, flowing passing move from Rangers involving Charlie Mulgrew, Jeremy Clement and Luka Modric was switched across to Freddy Eastwood who fired the ball in low and hard, a great touch by Ferguson to spin round McManus and he fired the ball past Artur Boruc to make it 1-0. The stadium erupted. This win gives Rangers a bit of breathing space over Killie and Celtic.
