Torino - Empoli

10th of September 2006
Stadio Olimpico, Turin
Italian Serie A 2006/2007 - Week 1

77' Masashi Oguro, 83' Stefano Fiore

It was a fantastic Serie A opener for Torino as Masashi Oguro's and Stefano Fiore's second half goals in space of six minutes as it ended 2:0.

Torino was hoping to have Alessandro Rosina back for the match, but he was ruled out after mornings test. Andre Zuba and Cedric Konan were also missing as the later made a performance for Ivory Coast on Saturday night.

Il Granata got off nice, but Ivan Franceschini's shot after a long team move flew over from 30 meters out.

After that neither team really did anything until Stefano Fiore made a fantastic run down the right flank, breaking into the box in progress, but his powerful shot was brilliantly saved by Australian Zeljko Kalac.

The follow-up fell to Nikola Lazetic who blasted the ball over the goal from six meters.

The game level didn't seem to be improving at all, but at the end of the half heartbeats increased when Elvis Abbruscato was sent one on one with Kalac. His shot though flew wide of the goal.

At half-time manager Tanel Tursk bringed in Gianluca Comotto for disappointing Fabio Gallo as Stefano Fiore moved behind strikers.

That change didn't bring anything new into the game and after 70th minute Tursk saw that if going for a win he needed to make subs so he bringed in Masashi Oguro for a debut alongside usual substitution of Iacopo Balestri.

It didn't take long for the Japanese striker to make his mark. Seven miinutes later a Cristiano Lupatelli long kick was flicked to Oguro by Abbruscato as the striker sent the ball near the top corner.

Fantastic debut for Oguro!

Empoli got their first shot after 82nd minute as Sergio Almiron's free-kick from dangerous position flew wide and over.

Though just a minute later a free-kick was given at the other end of the pitch as Elvis Abbruscato was pulled down. Fiore steped up to take it and he sent the ball into the top corner of the net to top off his stellar performance.

Empoli couldn't handle Fiore

De Ascentis almost made it 3:0, but his long effort flew over in the hot Olimpico stadium as Torino fans celebrated a great victory which puts them first in the table!

Torino: 28-Cristiano Lupatelli; 15-Ivan Franceschini, 2-Raffaele Schiavi, 25-Marco Di Loreto; 15-Diego De Ascentis; 7-Stefano Fiore , 8-Simone Barone, 17-Nikola Lazetic (70' 22-Iacopo Balestri); 5-Fabio Gallo (45' 3-Gianluca Comotto); 19-Elvis Abbruscato, 11-Roberto Stellone (70' 12-Masashi Oguro )
