 Me, Board & Money 1st of January 2007
I was called up for another board meeting and as it's been mentioned before, I have certain amount of disagreements with them everytime I meet them.
This time I wasn't late for having to visit the toilet, I was there on time, with soft chair I had carried in myself before the meeting. Yet another different thing from last time.
I had been in a positive mood for a long time with the club, but I was cautios about what was going to happen today. Maybe they were going to fire me, or maybe the financial state is so bad that they announce that they have to sell couple of hotshot players. Like captain Bruno China as the interest had been drawing on him.
Everyone was waiting for Carlos Oliveira to arrive from his holiday from Canaries and no-one had seen him after the Christmas party. It had gone a little past 12 PM when the meeting was supposed to start when Carlos Oliveira steped in. Wearing sun glasses and a expensive suit.

He cheered us rather loud when steping in from the corridore as he sat by his place under the window.
"Gentleman, it's a important day for us. It's up for us to make an important decision between falling to bankrupcy, replace our highpaid players or invest money into the team," he started his opening speech to the one hour meeting, "But first of all I'd like to praise our manager for getting many brilliant results last month."
"Yes, he's done very well," said a guy with rather long brown hair, wearing Gucci shoes and a Hugo Boss suit. He always made those pathetic attempts to sound smart when I see him, I don't know is it just me or he is idiot not to understand that those marks actually make him an idiot.
I didn't say anything, just nogged my head in agreement that last month has been good, but I was more than unimpressed with their change of minds.
The important part of the meeting was of the financial situation. It was life or death question and I had my vital say in things. Always making them convert to put money in the club as that was the only option I agreed on. Eventhough the possiblity of Carlos Oliveira selling the club would've been no doubt great also.
But things weren't going anywhere, after almost all of them agreed on selling the players to keep from salary expenses and ear some extra money from transfering them, I was outraged. I told them to wait a minute, grabed my phone and went outside.
"Hey dad. I want help. Right now. Those idiots want to sell players to help the financial state of the club," I complained to dad and asked him for financial boost.
I marched into the office after a three minute talk with dad and told them, "My father is willing to give this team a one last boost, he will clear all the debts we have for the moment. Now thanks for the pleasure of the meeting, go home."
It was all smiles for the board. If there'd be a club football awards show, something like Oscars, then that'd by a mile get the "Worst Board Of The Year" title for a decade. |
