Santa Brings Me A Porto

21st of December 2006

I was going to leave for Estonia to spend christmas with my friends the day before the christmas eve, but I had a Leixões christmas party too.

The part was at Carlos Oliveira's house who rarely though was around here in Portugal as he travelled around much. There was gifts from club to everyone, eventhough we originally planned a system we had in my schooldays in Estonia that everyone takes a name from a hat and this person he is going to buy the gift to.

There was not much christmas songs sang ofcourse, only the guys who drank a little bit too much wine sang along with the some Porto band Oliveira had hired to be here. Of the people there were everyone from the players to the board here that I had knew.

Due to the fact it being a multi-cultural club with not only catholic, not mostly though, we skiped the christmas traditions, as it in the end wasn't a Christmas Eve in the end, it was a Christmas party.

Though we were given some traditional Portugese Christmas dishes, not really similiar to the one's I have in Estonia. Due to the fact that Estonia was under the Germans control for quite long time in medievel times our traditional Christmas food is "kraut".

Anyway, we were given a "consiado", a large dryed & salted cod cooked with vegetables, potatoes and eggs. "If you translate my name it actually is cod," I told as I was told what fish that was. I liked the meal as beside the eggs I really like all the stuff there, espescially I like fish.

And for desert we were offered national Portugese desert, white bread that has been soaked in eggs and water and baked until it's rather crusty. It's called rabanadas.

Rabanadas

I liked the meal and after that Carlos Oliveira took the word in the microphone of the band. Minutes before he had finished off a phone-call as he went outside for that. I thought that it had something to do with the phone-call and I was right.

"I just recieved a phone-call, telling that we'll meet Porto in the next round of Portugese Cup!" he sounded delighted over the mic. Everybodies mouth fell open, almost everyone's, as some of the players had already played againist Porto in the past.

Estadio do Dragao

It was a huge and fantastic chance to see how we could fit the Portugese top division football which is our plan for next season. Though it was away game, it's a huge possiblity for our fans to see us play a big team as we are just around dozen kilometers from Estadio do Dragao.

That was hopefully start to the newest rivalary in the Portugese football for us and hopefully the match could get a name derby in the future.

The part continued in full front, but the wonderful clock I got from the team and the fear of reading a poem to the Santa to get the gift was totally outshone with the previos shocking news.

The party lasted until 11 PM as after that we had a five day training break and small holidays with a chance to visit our families and friends.
